Lord Jesus, Think on Me

“Lord Jesus, Think on Me” is one of 10 odes, or hymns, written by Synesius of Cyrene, bishop of Ptolemais (c.370-430) and translated by Allen W. Chatfield (1808-1896) in his Songs and Hymns of Earliest Greek Christian Poets, Bishops and Others (1876).

This anthem for unison voices and organ is a setting of the text to an original tune in minor tonality, and it is well-suited to use in penitential seasons. Because the stanzas and tune are short, it is suggested that the choir director and organist introduce some variety to the verses through their assignment to male, female, or all voices, with some variation in the organ registration as well.
