Written by Anglican bishop Reginald Heber (1783-1826) for Trinity Sunday in the liturgical year, “Holy, Holy, Holy” is a hymn that speaks specifically on the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. John Bacchus Dykes (1823–1876), an Anglican priest who wrote more than 300 hymn tunes, composed “NICAEA” to accompany Heber’s text. The tune’s name is a tribute to the First Council of Nicaea, which formalized the doctrine of the Trinity in 325 A.D.
