Direct Us, O Lord

“Direct Us, O Lord” are the opening words of a collect (col’-lect: the “collected” prayer of the people gathered for worship) from the Book of Common Prayer.

Used in the English church since at least the sixth century, the collect is a translation from Latin of a prayer found in the Gregorian Sacramentary. It is often used as the concluding collect to a priest’s preparatory prayers before celebrating the eucharist.
